Victoria Gabrielle Li, London-based Visual Artist

 

Li holds a BA in Fine Art from Camberwell College of Arts and an MA in Fine and Decorative Arts and Design. Her artistic practice centres on oil painting on canvas, employing a contemporary aesthetic enriched by precious metal leaf and precious pigments.

 

Li’s work is driven by a fascination with the timeless allure of 24-karat gold leaf and the symbolic use of circular motifs. These elements serve as visual metaphors for transcendence, preciousness, and the interconnectedness of all things. Her paintings draw inspiration from the grandeur of biblical narratives and the vast mystery of the cosmos, creating a unique visual language that reinterprets sacred themes through a contemporary lens.

 

Gold leaf plays a central role in her compositions, not only for its luminous quality but also for its spiritual resonance. Victoria combines this with rare and historically significant pigments such as lapis lazuli and vermilion. The deep celestial blue of lapis lazuli evokes the infinite expanse of the heavens, while vermilion—vivid and powerful—symbolises passion and spiritual depth.

 

Circular motifs appear throughout her work, the central golden circle represents the self. Its scale reflects the degree of self centeredness - expanding with ego, contraction, and personal desire. In truth, no one exists entirely free from this state, even if only for a moment. This condition is not fixed, but part of an ongoing journey. Through reflection, awareness, and growth, the self begins to shift. As one moves beyond the initial learning curve, the golden circle evolves in meaning, it no longer signifies mere self importance, but inner development.

 

Li reinterprets spiritual themes through contemporary abstraction and symbolism. Her paintings invite viewers into meditative spaces that contemplate identity, transformation, and humanity’s enduring search for meaning.

Li prefers to use the artistic moniker 'Blairria,' a combination of her own name and her favourite TV character from childhood.
